Winter fun in Kindergarten!!

The kindergarteners had fun reading Polar Bear Morning and Polar Bear Night!  We cut out polar bears and used watercolor and "magic" salt to create a polar bear winter scene.  They were amazed how the salt sprinkled on top of the watercolor made snowflakes too!!

First week back has been a blast!!

Kindergarten has finished making colorful chalk owls!!  They got messy during the process but had excellent results with the final art piece being completed.  First grade has had fun again with the process of using oil pastels to create a piece inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers!!  I am so proud of second grade exceling in using value to create forms with shadows!!!!

A challenge for second grade!!

The second graders have been working so hard in creating several types of value scales.  They have used a variety of mediums including pencil, pen, tempera paint, oil pastel, and colored pencil.  They have been practicing diligence and focus while building a foundation to tackle upcoming projects using the lightness and darkness of a color or hue!!!

Gratitude!

The first graders are learning that Sunflowers painted by Vincent Van Gogh was meant to symbolize gratitude. They made the connection of gratitude between their gratitude journals they have started and the symbolism of sunflowers. They will begin a replica of Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh in the coming weeks!!

1st grade fun!!

First grade took courageous steps into creativity this week!  They experimented with various found objects dipped in paint to create all different types of texture.  They then assembled, cut, and glue their painted papers to make a mixed-up creature.  Reading The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle was their inspiration along with their own creative ideas drawn in their sketchbooks, that truly helped make their one of a kind creative creatures.

Value! One of the elements of art

Kindergarten completed a simplified version of Hunters in the Snow by Peter Bruegel.  We discussed the painting first, then we used light, medium, and dark value to color in the worksheet using white, gray, and black crayons.

The kindergarteners are beginning to mix black and white paint together! They have discovered, if they didn't know already, that those 2 paints mixed together make gray.  They are creating a value scale using white, gray, and black for light, medium, and dark value.
